Hair and Makeup

Hiska Sisters hair and beauty workshops

Grooming, hair and makeup is an activity that helps young people express themselves and promotes creativity. This category also indirectly addresses personal hygiene.

In addition to hair and makeup, this program will also include further self care aspects such as good nutrition for healthy body, skin, hair and nails. Earth friendly products and techniques in cleansing and face masks will form part of the program. It is important to show just how necessary self-care is when experiencing a mental health issue and how even basic self-care can help to improve mood and self-confidence.

The hair & makeup program will take place in a supportive, relaxed and comfortable environment. HISKA Sisters will hold sessions initially once per week at a local community venue. The program will be run by volunteers who ideally have some background knowledge in hair, makeup and self-care application.

HISKA Sisters aims to encourage young women and LGBTI, some of whom may be facing personal struggles, to take care of themselves, connect with others, experiment with their self-expression and have fun. It is hoped that many of the items for this program will be donated. Participants are also welcome to bring along any products they own so that our mentors can provide guidance and help participants practice how to use them more effectively.
